Thank you so much for this comment. I don't know how it slipped past my radar until now. But, I love the image of you hovering near the painting. I wonder if you and I caused these new policies to be put in place.

Henri Matisse is also my favorite artist of all time...except for my other favorite being Georgia O'Keeffe.
When I was 2 my mother used to take me to the Met in NYC, and I LOVED the paintings, and I've always known not to touch. But I could "feel" them with my eyes, and also by putting my hands about an inch from the surface. I've done that ever since. My mother tells me that I would step in front of a painting that intrigued me and I would go almost up to it with my face and I would hover my hand near it. The Guards were always on edge; but she would somehow let them know that I would be OK, and I was.
All my life I've been able to"feel" a painting this way.
My son is now a framer with a high-end company in NYC and he goes into Christie's and Sotheby's and the museums, etc. and frames the "big boys" of the art world....he has touched a Matisse. He LOVES his work!
I loved reading this. Thank you...it's beautiful.

PS - I think that nowadays you aren't even allowed to stand that close to a painting. :)

Laura, what a great visual! Oh, that I would be so enthralled with the beauty of God and the picture of His plan for us!

And even though I know the guards were right in your situation, in our case, Satan is so ready to jump in and condemn us for getting too close.

In my Bible study this morning, Shannon Mullins referred to Ps 123, where it encourages us to be so sensitive to God that we anticipate His slightest signal. We have to be close to do that.

Thanks for the confirmation!

Thanks for a great summary, Mary. There have been times, especially when I was younger, that I made many of those mistakes. And sometimes I still do.

But God continues to grow me and show me the blessings and the danger zones in friendships.

I especially appreciate your comment about sandpaper people. I've learned that sometimes they're there to teach me patience or grace. Sometimes they're there for me to help them grow in grace. But sometimes they're there to show me a glimpse of my own tendencies.

Great job!

This article is beautiful on so many levels! Your child is blessed to have a mom who will stop her busy life & rock & sing to him. I still give long hugs to my 8yr-old & need to remember to do this more to my 11yr-old (who will resist but still needs it). Thanks for the reminder! I strongly believe God made us all with the need to be touched (& held being loved & comforted). It heals & breaks down so many barriers. God's presence brings so much peace but sometimes we need a real, long hug, no matter how old we are!
